4th Day of School and Beyond!

Today I would like to say that it is very tough for a mother to have to watch her child scream hysterically when she leaves them at school. The first 3 days of school went by perfectly, not a single tear. Then the 4th day of school arrives and my child was the only one screaming her little head off. I must confess it broke my heart and I was just about to take her with me back home. But the teacher re-assured me that she was going to be fine, and that they all calm down after a while.
I surely hope so!!! I can't wait to get home from work today and spend some time with my little one and get reassured that she was in deed fine all day.

On another note, my oldest daughter Gaby, she had been accepted into the Stellar Program or Top Class, and even though I was happy about that, I was concerned that her teacher was one that my daughter was not very fond of, however there was a nice turn of events. For some reason, even though my daughter's report card said that she was in classroom 401, she was assigned to 402. And that day when my daughter met her new teacher she immediately fell in love with her. She was so happy and excited to have a nice teacher. I was a little bit concerned as I wasn't aware of the reason why she had not been assigned to the Stellar Program, or if the Stellar Program was something different all together.

On the 2nd day of school my daughter calls me at work and when I ask her how her day was she said "fine", but with a tone of voice that mom's can immediately tell that it means: My day went Just Awful!! And I got her to confess, and she told me that the vice-Principal had told her that she wanted her to be in the Top Class and that she was going to work to change her to the Top Class. And my daughter was devastated but afraid to tell the Vice-Principal that she didn't ant to be changed. So I asked her what she wanted to do, and she said she wanted to stay in 402. So I told her, don' t worry, I'll talk to the school to make sure they keep you in your current class. A few phone calls later I was able to get the Vice-Principal on the phone and requested to have Gaby stay in her current class, at that time the VP remembered that previously I had come to meet with her over my concern with Gaby and that writing (now in the Top Class) teacher, so she promised me to keep Gaby where she was. It was very rewarding to hear my daughter be so joyful and scream the words: Thank you Mommy!!! Thank you soooooo much!! as she heard the news. And I am very grateful to have been able to help.

Being a mom is such hard work, we are constantly looking out for the best interest of our children and sometimes there are so many variables in everyday life, and so many things we have to look out for, and soooo many reasons that we worry about stuff. And all we hope is that our children grow up to be healthy, respected, self sufficient, productive, happy, individuals.
And when we as moms have the need to work outside the home we feel as if we are leaving so many things out to chance. And we worry about all the variables that we cannot control. And for the same reason, we as moms have to take care of ourselves a lot, and it's something that we tend to take for granted. We tend to put everyone before ourselves and we tend to feel judged and helpless sometimes. So I would like to take this time to be grateful for those things that give us moms the chance to renew our spirits and take care of ourselves, and offer a Shout Out to the wonderful Melissa Lopata, Founding Editor of Hip Slope Mama and Ellen Bari from Momasphere.com for the awesome even that they made yesterday at MELT Restaurant. It was a chance to relax and mingle with other moms and renew our spirits, and get more strength so that we can keep doing our best for our children and ourselves. Also I would like to shout out to the lovely ladies I met at last night's event: Jen Lee , Bethany Rule Vedder, Mari Renwick, Christie Marie, and Rahti Gorfien. Thanks ladies for offering to read my blog and for offering me your friendship and resources. May we meet again soon!

  1. So great to meet you, and thanks for the shout-out! I hear you on leaving screaming kids behind, it's awful. I'm waiting for the first day of that, so far so good but if it's like last year he'll have a clingy day before long. Glad Gaby's teacher worked out in the end too, she obviously had a strong preference and it's much better that she be comfortable.
